RYA Instructors are in high demand world wide! Whether you want to do it full time or as a free-lancer, this is a great way to be able to get on the water and teach others to sail. Anywhere in the world that there is an RYA academy is an opportunity for you to travel and top up the bank account!
The main instructing scheme works like this ...
Prerequisite qualification required: RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (commercially endorsed).
1) RYA Cruising Instructor (CI):
This qualification allows you to teach Competent Crew and Day Skipper Practical courses for the RYA.
A great way to get your 'foot in the door' as an international instructor.
2) RYA Shorebased Instructor:
A Shorebased Instructor can teach all classroom courses from Day Skipper to Yachtmaster Offshore level.
Instruct the theory, navigation and all shorebased aspects of the RYA curriculum. Keeps your own skills sharp too!!
3) RYA Yachtmaster Instructor (YMI):
Once you have been working as a CI for at least a season you may qualify to upgrade to a YMI.
The course is 5 days, but once successfully completed, you will be able to teach all RYA practical modules right up to Offshore level.
There are also other avenues and instructing options;
- RYA SRC Radio Instructor/Examiner
- RYA Powerboat Instructor (various levels)
- RYA Personal Watercraft Instructor (Jet-Ski)
- RYA Diesel Engine Instructor
- RYA Radar Instructor
