What is a Day skipper?
In short you will be able to sail in daytime hours inland and at sea where some limitations can apply. To make a career out of sailing this would be your first step, but for a sailing enthusiast it will allow you to join in on club races, and even allow you to charter your very own yacht in places like Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Italy and many other idyllic locations around the globe. This is referred to as Bareboat Chartering where you are the skipper for your holiday. It’s very cost effective due to saving on skippers fees and tips.
The RYA license refers to the Royal Yachting Association accepted all over the world. The SASailing License is specifically for South Africans sailing in South African waters.
The SRC course is a Short Range Radio Course that is required for both licenses. This course can also be used towards a SAMSA Powerboat License which is available all over South Africa, saving you even more.
Successful completion of this 2 in 1 course qualifies you both locally and internationally.
